Naomie Harris is in talks to play the villain Shriek in Venom 2.
According to Variety, Moonlight star Naomie Harris will appear in the film as Spider-Man villain Shriek. She joins Tom Hardy, who plays lead character Eddie Brock. She will play a villain alongside Woody Harrelson, who is set to return as Cletus Kasady, aka Carnage.

Shriek will be Carnage’s romantic interest in the film just as she is in the comics, which should give Harris a substantial role in the sequel. This casting does go against reports of what level of actress Sony was looking at for the role, as they were said to be “looking mostly at unknowns” just a few days ago. Harris is far from an unknown, so it is possible that she only recently emerged as an option for the role.
Harris is no stranger to the genre, having appeared in films like 28 Days Later and Rampage. She has played Eve Moneypenny across several James Bond films, including Skyfall, Spectre and the upcoming No Time to Die. Her past credits also include Dinotopia, The Tomorrow People and Mowgli: Legend of the Jungle.
First appearing in 1993’s Spider-Man Unlimited #1, Shriek is a mutant with the ability to manipulate sound for offensive attacks, as well as manipulate a person’s emotions to bring out their darker impulses. She recently reappeared in the lead-up to Marvel’s ongoing Absolute Carnage event series.
With Venom director Ruben Fleischer working on Zombieland: Double Tap, Andy Serkis will be taking the reins as director on Venom 2. The film will see the return of Tom Hardy as Eddie Brock and Michelle Williams as Anne Weying. We also learned recently that Woody Harrelson will be back as Cletus Kasady from the post-credits scene of the first Venom, potentially setting up Carnage as the villain of the sequel.
